Departure Date!!!

I've been checking my email like crazy for the past few days and last night the email finally came! My travel agent contacted me telling me that it was time to finalize my plane itinerary. Yay! I'll be flying out on Sunday August 18th at 3:50pm and have a two and a half hour flight to Dallas, Texas. Then I have a 3 hour layover before I go to Santiago. Then onto the big 10 hour ride to Santiago! So I'll get into Santiago at 8am on August 19th. Phew! I've never been on a plane for more than 3 hours before!

Right now it looks like I won't be with any other exchange students on the airplane. It would've been nice to have someone going through the same thing but oh well.

So that's 9 days people! Down to the single digits! This is crazy. I'm packing away my room and it's hard to believe it's really so close. A couple of weeks ago it hit me that I'm leaving REALLY soon. Not just "sometime in August" or "at the end of the summer" like I've been parroting back to people since November. I'm excited/nervous/sad/anxious/scared/ready/not ready/worried/every other emotion imaginable. But it's all part of being an exchange student. Every once in a while I have mini panic attacks where I completely freak out. I just have to keep telling myself that it's happening whether I'm ready or not and that it's going to be one of the best years of my life.

So I was thinking about all of the differences I'll be facing and I just realized that the time is different! They use military time there! I think I'll adjust quickly though.

There are 7 or 8 other inbounds already in their countries. And more leave every day. And pretty soon I'll be in Chile! Making friends, seeing a new country, and, as a given, struggling with the language. I am BEYOND excited to go and start my amazing year!

  1. Yay, Christy! You are going to do awesome! Just keep smiling and saying, "Mas despadiado, por favor." Everyone will love you there, and then you'll come back to us in a year, fluent in Spanish and having learned so much!
