Last Wednesday my school had a day for healthy eating or dia de la alimentación sana. For the first two hours of the day, each class set up a stand and gave away fruit, yogurt, cereal, etc.. And so everyone was in charge of bring in 2 of each of these things. (Have I mentioned how organized and how well my classmates work together? It's incredible!) Anyways. The group that I was in was in charge of preparing the food. So I helped peel and chop a whole bunch of apples, pears, bananas, and oranges.
I was pretty excited!

Miguel!:On Wednesday night at 9, I had my monthly Rotary dinner. I was so exhausted just from the day and wasn't looking forward to it much... But I went and the food was really good. :) And there was accordion player that was incredible. I got home from that at 12:30. Ughhh. And got to bed around 1:00 or 1:30. So let's just say I was a bit extra tired the next day in school.
Umm. What else happened last week? On Friday, I had English class. That a relaxing class because I talk a bit of English with Ariel (my friend that sits next to me). In other classes, we try to talk in Spanish for the most part. One of the assignments was to be able to read an article out of the book out loud. So everyone was working on pronunciation. The teacher had me read it out loud to the class. I tried my best to read slowly, but after class some friends said that I read so fast! haha. The teacher asks me for synonyms for words or to explain somethings like "what is a propeller " "uhhhh. Something that propels?" Or "Christy, can you explain the difference between bored and boring?"
After school on Friday, Nico, Rodrigo, Carolina, and I walked to the mall and ate at Doggi's (another hot dog place :) ). But this time I didn't get a completo. I got a plate of fries with dollops of avocado and tomatoes and cut up pieces of hot dogs on top. Mmmm! I forgot to take a picture of it... next time!
We walked back to the school and I changed for basketball. But then I realized that practice was almost over... So I sat with Nico, Rodrigo, and Carolina and talked. We got some popsicles and then they recorded me reading the article for English. After that, I took a collectivo home.
Saturday: My 2 month mark in Chile!! I don't know how time is going by so fast here!
I didn't do too much... Just a nice relaxing day. I got up early and went for a run. When I got back and showered I went with my mom to the feria, which is that fruit and vegetable market I wrote about before. When we got back we had lunch and some delicious, fresh strawberries with cream. Perfection.
Sunday! I took a colectivo to church instead of walking. The other three people in it turned and stared at me for the first few minutes, but I just ignored it because that's usual for me now. Then one of them asked me if I was going to church. I said yes and we had a colectivo full of Mormons! Haha. I got to Sacrament meeting fifteen minutes early and asked if I could play the piano. I haven't played a real piano in 2 months and I almost died! It was so great. And now I'm the back up pianist for the ward. :) I love singing the hymns in Spanish. The classes were great! I'm understanding a lot more, even if I can't answer a lot of questions. Young Women's class was fantastic. We had a lesson on being grateful for the things that make us happy in our lives. That's a pretty long list for me! And now every night I'm trying to write at least three things that made me smile during the day. It usually ends up being more than three. So church was fabulous!
I didn't want to sit around the house for the rest of the day with nothing to do so I met up with Rodrigo outside the church. I was so happy from the lesson about appreciating things that make you happy that he asked me why I look so happy. Haha. :) We took a colectivo to the grocery store and bought some oreos, starbursts, and juice. Then we walked next door to the movie theater. We bought tickets for Gravity (Gravidad) and right outside the doors I said "hey! We need to take a picture of our American candy!" I forgot about smuggling the food in... And a worker saw us and confiscated it. :( Sad.
We didn't want to buy more, so we watched the movie without food. Gravity was in English with Spanish subs. That was nice and easy. Haha. It was kind of a dull movie. I wouldn't recommend it. But it was the only non R-rated and not scary movie (the Conjuring. Ack.) there that we both didn't mind seeing. We sat down and a guy near us took out his phone and took pictures of me. I was kinda freaked out. He didn't even try to hide it... After the movie we walked to a park to eat our food. But then it started raining so we ran to the grocery store again and ate in the little restaurant area. When it stopped raining, we walked back to the park and talked for a bit. Then I took a colectivo home and spent the evening with my lovely family.
Well it's late, late, late on Wednesday night as I'm typing this up. Well actually Thursday morning. Today I have a history test, school until 5:15, and basketball practice after. I'm tired just thinking of it. So this is it for tonight!
Nice pictures. Glad you're happy. BUT -- who is the King in Picture 4, and why did he get to be King? And in Picture 6, why is someone playing the guitar in your cooking class? And in Picture 8, that's a nice staircase. Does it go to your upstairs? Do a lot of houses just have floors cut open and stairways going up into them?
ReplyDeleteBy King, I'm assuming you mean kid. Are you on the iPad? And as labeled, that is my friend Miguel. It wasn't a cooking class... just a crazy set up time for the health day thing. But people play their guitars in ALL classes. It's so great. Three of my friends even wrote me a song. :) (It's not as good as your Christy song though...) Picture 4: yes it does. The strawberries are on the dining room table and there is the living room which leads upstairs. And to your last question: not that I'm aware of... :)
DeleteNo. I meant KING. There is a kid in the background with a crown and robe on -- like a real king. Maybe he is the King of Chile.
DeleteOh! One of the classes all had capes and crowns on... I'm not really sure why.
DeleteYou do make me tired reading your blog. :) I'm glad you're so good at English. And that you're getting better at Spanish. Love you!
ReplyDeleteOh, Christy! I miss you! I love how when you type "Ughhh" I can actually hear you saying it in my mind :) I just love reading about how much fun you're having. I've got to say, sending you off to South America scared me, but it seems like you're in just the right place. And I love your selfies, you're gorgeous, my dear! And I'm drooling over your strawberries. Miss you!
ReplyDelete:) I miss you too Caroline! I love seeing your posts on Facebook. Especially about all of Ryan's outfits. You have some awesome kids!
